This past week I was lucky enough to attend two different theatrical performances.
For my mom's birthday, John, my mom, and I went to see the 25th anniversary concert of "Les Misérables" aired in movie theaters. It was by far one of the best performances I've ever seen! The cast had over 300 performers and musicians so the sound from the choirs and orchestra was remarkable. The only weak link was Nick Jonas playing 'Marias'. Everyone else kilt it, especially (my uneducated opinion) Alfie Boe as 'Jean Valjean'.
Little plug for Fathom Events:
Fathomevents.com is a great way to see shows that aren't often available here in the Midwest. They air famous productions in movie theaters. Our "Les Mis" tickets only cost us a little bit more than a normal movie ticket! I know there are operas from the Met and live concerts from popular musical artists aired on a regular basis. Love it!
John and I went to see "Amadeus" on Saturday. It was put on by Purdue's theater department. I'm usually really impressed with the quality of the shows put on by Purdue students. While they did a good job with the play, the story is kind of a downer. The idea of a diligent, hardworking, talentless individual trying to destroy a spoiled, flamboyant genius is a tough one to watch for several hours. Overall, glad I saw it, but wouldn't watch it again.
Plays to look forward to: Wicked, Arabian Nights
