Primera Semana de Clases

Here is a summation of my first impressions of my classes:

Cultura de Mexico: This class is in Spanish, but mainly consists of exchange students. I think it will be an easier class, but really interesting. The professor is an anthropologist from a big museum in Mexico, and so I feel he is a little more relaxed then some of the professors at my school. He was talking about organizing some field trips, to see a rodeo, wrestling matches, and some other things that I can't remember right now. But I hope we do go on these field trips!

Destrezas comunicativas II: This class is my other class for exchange students in Spanish. The goal of this class is to learn how to use Spanish. For example, you don't talk the same way with your grandparents as you do at a party, which is different from the way you talk at work. I am excited about this class because I think while learning how to conjugate verbs and knowing vocab is a good start, what is lacking is tone and context. My teacher for this class is a Spaniard who married a Mexican woman. He switches back and forth between a Mexican and a Spanish accent, which is funny.

Dibujo Artistico: This class is for local students, I am the only non-Mexican in the class, (also Spanish.) It is once a week for 4 hours. I already know about half of my class, it is such a small school! During my first class, my professor orally gave us a list of supplies that we had to get by the next class. But my "art supply vocab" is apparently sub-par at this point in the game, because I had no idea what he was saying. So I asked a girl I know to look at her list, and wrote it down. I am going to an art store today, but I will have no idea what exactly for what I am looking. (Annie, I wanted to put ..idea exactly what I am looking for... But then I thought of you! :) ) I hope when I show up Wednesday, I won't have something obviously wrong!

Literatura Latinoamerica Contemporanea: This class is mainly local students. This class will be my only real time consuming class. It is a lot of reading, and it's a hard class for native speakers. My professor is apparently famous and has 4 books of poetry; she is pretty hardcore. I thought about changing this class because I was afraid it was too hard, but I think I am going to keep it, as a challenge, and since the rest of my classes seem to have an easier workload. I have about 50 pages to read for Tuesday, and a book that I have to have read by Friday.
